It's incredibly hard to find information on this church aside from
repeated entries online claiming that it is the largest parish church in
England (it is Epic in scale) so looks like I'll need to visit to get
more info.

We're writing a book! Share your stories

(viewed 1143 times)
I've been thinking about a book for some time now. Britain is a country of deep and hidden histories. Stories that are buried but present in the architecture around us, built up in the silted granite nooks and crannies.

I want to tell the stories of these stopped clocks we've been documenting. Each clock has it's own story, but I think it's perhaps even more important to tell the stories that people have about them. The clock at St Leonards. Church in Shoreditch sits in the middle of a large and leafy green garden centuries old. How many couples had their first kiss sitting on a bench there? How many were married underneath the ornate gilded clock inside?

I don't anticipate that finding these stories will be easy, actually I see myself doing rather a lot of standing in the street coaxing people to talk to me, but perhaps you can help. Do you have a story related to a stopped clock local to you? Do you know someone who does? If you would like to help please pass this post along!
